Surprising No One, Biden Doesn’t Get It

So Kyle Rittenhouse was found not guilty of all charges of killing two men and injuring a third. If you watched even a few minutes of the trial, you'd know it was a fucking joke from the start. The prosecutor was inept (he brought up Kyle's scores in Call of Duty), the judge was both an idiot and on Kyle's side from the start, and the jury wasn't even sequestered, which in a case this high profile is baffling. So with all of that, it wasn't really a surprise that Kyle gets to walk. People are understandably angry. I'm angry. This verdict sets a very dangerous precedent for what qualifies as self-defense. But that's not what I want to talk about here. No, we need to talk about what the (Democratic) President of the United States said in response to all this.

When asked his thoughts, Biden answered, "I stand by what the jury has concluded. The jury system works, and we have to abide by it." Nope. Fuck that. If you don't see the problem with this statement, let's think about the situation. Kyle Rittenhouse brought an AR-15 that he didn't own across state lines to a protest, where he shot and killed two people. There's video not just of the shooting, but of Kyle expressing his desire to shoot protesters. After the shooting, Kyle was celebrating with Proud Boys, doing shots and taking selfies with them at a bar. He's been idolized by white supremacists, including such laudable members of Congress as Matt Gaetz and Paul Gosar. The kid is a murderer and white supremacist with a desire for violence and no remorse for what he did. And he's not guilty. He's a free man. What about that is an example of the jury system working, Mr. President?

I've already seen neoliberals defending Biden, so I'm gonna go over the most common argument I've heard from them: Biden has to say that to cater to the moderate vote. He can't alienate half the country that agrees with the verdict.

First off, the "moderate voters" Democrats love to court don't exist. The recent Virginia election proves this. Terry McAuliffe ran a campaign that was decidedly not progressive. And he lost because progressives are sick and tired of falling in line with a party that doesn't give a shit about them and is actively destroying the country. Turns out, you can't win an election for the supposed progressive party without the very progressives you're meant to represent. Those moderates neoliberals always talk about are just quiet Republicans.

We also need to stop worrying about alienating the Republicans. Bipartisanship is a fairy tale that Democrats have been telling themselves since Bill Clinton coerced an intern into having sex with him. Republicans will never let themselves agree with anything Biden does or says. Every time the Democrats extend on olive branch, Republicans refuse to meet them halfway. So the Democrats move further to the right, but by the time they've gotten to where the GOP was, they're already gone, running so far right that they break into the Capitol to hang Mike Fucking Pence.

Biden's gonna need to keep his eyes open long enough to realize Republicans will never like him, and that he's doing a really good job of making sure progressives don't either. Coincidentally, I'm posting this on his 79th birthday. I hope he has the birthday he deserves.

Believe it or not, I do write these things to be at least a little educational, so it'd be cool if you shared them, even if you disagree and want to laugh at me with your friends. And of course, if you have questions or wanna talk more about this, just let me know. Thanks for reading.
